2.3.5.a What does tying involve?

Tying is an operation during the growing period which consists in going back to the plot after lifting to "tidy up" the branches and any drooping side shoots. This can be done by stapling to the trellis wires between each vine. This technique also makes it possible, once the lifting is done, to go back over each vine and separate and uncross the branches in order to improve ventilation. Tying is a good prophylactic method allowing ventilation around the bunches and efficient phytosanitary treatments (the bunches are clearly visible and therefore reached by phytosanitary treatments, which rely on direct contact).
