When there is not enough space in the vat room or when the winemaker wishes to preserve wine's respective identities, the same batch can be vinified in several containers.
However, while this alternative technique is very practical for the winemaker, it is possible that vinifying a wine in a different container can give it a different identity. Using a variety of containers for the same batch of grapes and/or wine will also lead to more monitoring and analyses for the same batch, the traceability can be more complex and handling errors are more likely.
In this case, the use of several containers for the same wine is only really useful when the winemaker wishes or needs at all costs to preserve the plot's identity. Otherwise, the grapes can be blended with a vat of equivalent quality.
