About

The Artémis Domaines estates are characterised by their diversity - whether it be different wine-growing regions, grape varieties or wine-making practices - and we are very fortunate in this respect. It means we benefit from shared experiences, work towards mutual betterment and ultimately have a unique perspective on our profession. Our team has progressively complied a database made up of different information sources and savoir-faire, covering topics from work on the plots before planting to bottling with the aim of safeguarding this knowledge and passing on best practices.

Alongside this, the work of final-year students, who year-upon-year carry out various studies at our different estates, compels us to continuously adjust and sometimes completely rethink our approach.

Each topic is analysed according to a three-way approach:

A theoretical approach to ensure a firm grasp of the basics. The information is descriptive and can be found in different sources (French Vine Institute, National Institute of Agricultural Research, scientific articles, theses…) that we have wanted to bring together in one place.

Then a more practical and operational approach (logistics, time spent, choice of equipment) based on our specific ways of working in each estate.

Finally, a more experimental approach gleaned from findings and trials carried out at our estates.

Initially the idea behind the project was to provide our staff, interns and students joining one of our estates, with quick and easy access to the different topics should they wish delve further and deepen their knowledge. They could review our current knowledge levels on certain themes and immerse themselves in trials already carried out along with their results.

In 2019 Julien Arnaud, a young oenologist in charge of research and development for al of our estates, organised all of the different information in a website for internal use.

In the end, we came to the conclusion that this website should be available to all.

The information that it contains might be useful for fellow producers whoever and wherever they are, but also might encourage professionals, should they so wish, to respond to a particular topic thereby enriching our database of enlightened opinion.

What is described here is only the sum of technical decisions based on a communal knowledge base and a certain work philosophy. Several pertinent choices are available but we have not described them all here quite simply because we have not experienced them ourselves.

Frédéric Engerer,
Chief Executive Officer, Artémis Domaines.
